Committees

ELSA Groningen's committees form an integral part of what we do. ELSA Groningen has five committees which ensure the effective and smooth functioning of the various programs we offer. The committee members are usually LLB students that have a direct impact in the organisation and administration of ELSA Groningen activities. 

Academic Activities
 

The Academic Activities Committee organises events which are tailored to develop the skills and networks of law students. The Academic Activities Committee organises a mix of formal and informal events. The standout events are Diplomats Day, various debates on legal topics, and guest lecturers with legal expertise in a variety of fields. There are also opportunities to socialise with our informal events which include lunches, drinks and Christmas dinner. The committee comprises a few active members and is overseen by the Vice President for Academic Activities. 

The Director for Social Activities works in collaboration with the Academic Activities Committee by planning fun events, finding venues, arranging benefits for active members and working with different student associations. These events are often formal (e.g. the annual Diplomats Day, debates, workshops, lectures, and tutorials) and informal (e.g. drinks and Christmas dinners). The Committee, which is typically comprised of a few Active Members, is supervised by the Vice President for AA.

Auditors 

The Auditors Committee manages the finances of our local group for each block. Our auditors are impartial and trustworthy and have no personal interest in the use of ELSA Groningen's budget. The Committee, which is comprised of two Active Members, is supervised by the Treasurer.

Marketing 

The Marketing Committee handles all matters related to public relations and publication. This includes the regular maintenance of our website and social media platforms, poster design for announcements and event promotion, establishment of partnerships with other organizations, and the preservation of the ELSA identity by ensuring the correct use of (copyrighted) materials. The Committee, which is comprised of a couple of Active Members, is supervised by the Vice President for Marketing.

Seminars and Conferences
 

The Seminars & Conferences Committee organises larger-scale events for law students. Such events include large lectures, symposiums, institutional visits, study visits, office trips, excursions, and the organisation of the Summer Law School. The Committee, often comprised of several Active Members, is supervised by the Vice President for Seminars and Conferences.

Professional Development
 

Professional Development (previously STEP) is an ELSA staple, offering accredited legal work experience to law students and young lawyers. The Professional Development Committee provides online and on-site traineeships at a variety of organisations, based in different jurisdictions and legal sectors. The Committee, comprised of a couple of Active Members, is supervised by the Vice President for Professional Development.
